Initial Consultation
Our initial consultation involves a comprehensive assessment to understand your needs and develop a tailored treatment plan to address your specific concerns.
During a vestibular assessment, your clinician will take a detailed look at your symptoms, balance and inner-ear function to understand what’s causing your dizziness or unsteadiness.
You can typically expect:

1. A thorough discussion of your symptoms
You’ll be asked about when your symptoms started, the frequency and duration of your symptoms, what makes them better or worse and how they affect your daily activities.

2. Medical and vestibular history
This may include previous ear infections, migraines, falls or trauma, any recent surgery or other relevant health conditions. You will be asked about any medications that you are currently taking or any recent changes to your medication.

3. Eye and head movement tests
Your clinician will perform tests that look at how your eyes move in response to head movements. These help identify issues with the vestibular system’s connection to your vision.

4. Balance and gait assessment
You’ll be guided through standing and walking tasks to evaluate stability, coordination and posture.

5. Positional testing
If vertigo is suspected—particularly from BPPV—your clinician may use specific head-positioning tests (such as the Dix-Hallpike or Supine head roll test) to identify which part of the inner ear is affected. Identifying the correct side, which canal is involved and the type of BPPV will determine the most appropriate repositioning manoeuvre for better results.

By the end of the assessment, you’ll receive a clear explanation of the findings and a personalised treatment plan. This often includes targeted exercises to improve balance, reduce dizziness and help your brain adapt more effectively.
